The Benefits of Master Harper's Allstyles

Master John Harper was the first to use the name “Allstyles” to describe his system back in the late 70’s. Since then, this name has been used for a number of systems that have been developed by many forward thinking Sensei’s and Sifu’s that can be categorized under the same general headings of free style or All Styles. It is important to note that there over one hundred styles that fall under the heading of Karate, and many hundreds that are Kung Fu, or Gung Fu. The exact style of martial art that is taught will vary from school to school based on the individual approach of the Sensei, Sifu or head instructor. This wide diversity can be seen in boxing gyms, gymnastic schools, dance studios, and the original dojos of Okinawa and Japan.

The system of Allstyles that is currently taught at Master Harper’s Black Belt School has been developed by Master Harper over the past 34 years, a boxer and an instructor in many styles of martial arts, he first introduced it into his training routines in 1976. His system used techniques that were easily adaptable to many situations. His focus was that of completion rather than focus on preset movements (katas) that contain many unusable techniques. His highly adaptable style has proven itself time and time again in the ring, Master Harper has trained 3 European champions 3 world champions and one of the best England teams in history. Master Harper’s fluid style is also considered one of the very best styles for personnel self defence. In 1998 his peers recognized his great achievements and dedication to the world of martial arts by entering him into the Martial Arts Hall Of Fame.

Born in Birmingham, Master John Harper's training began in 1970 when he began studying karate formally, and followed with Kung Fu, boxing and kickboxing and in addition to his own strenuous regimen, he continued to train in all of these systems simultaneously. In 1976 Master Harper having represented England at national and international level, was asked to teach martial arts at the Foleshill Leisure centre in Coventry. Finding this experience to be very rewarding, he readily developed his training programs whilst continuing to train and compete with the same passion and determination. he began to test his style and techniques against martial artists from many different backgrounds with great success.

“Attitude, Effort and consistency are key factors to a persons progress.”

In 1980, Master Harper was ready to teach his brand of All Styles. It evolved as a synthesis of the techniques, applications, and training methods of karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, boxing, and kickboxing. The system is characterized by four main components. One is an effective modern approach to martial arts. The second is the development of both physical and mental conditioning. Thirdly is confidence to compete at the highest levels. and Last but not least, is an emphasis on martial arts being used for personal development and character building.

In addition to serving as the head of his system, Master John Harper’s work within the martial arts world was once again recognized and he was awarded the rank of 8th degree black belt in 1998.

“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.”- Bruce Lee

Master Harper’s belief is that martial arts training is beneficial to everyone, regardless of age or experience. He believes in the life long learning approach, supporting and inspiring his students to strive towards their personal goals not only in martial arts but in all areas of life. He encourages them to always go that extra mile when striving to raise their own standards.

Master Harper’s goal is simple: to help all of his students become black belts in martial arts, and black belts in life.
